Project Rationale

Mindfulness based cognitive therapy is a self-management tool that is increasingly used within mainstream services to support therapy. It has been shown to be an effective intervention for managing depressed mood, anxiety, stress and rumination and for prevention relapse of depression and anxiety when integrated with standard treatment including with cognitive behaviour therapy. However, current treatment resources are almost exclusively available in English.  In 2013, an Arabic Language Mindfulness CD was developed by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and this evaluation explores its acceptability and utility.

Project Aim/s

The aim of the evaluation is to explore the acceptability and clinical utility of the Arabic language Mindfulness CD.  The evaluation questions are:

  1. Is the Arabic Mindfulness CD culturally acceptable to members of the Arabic speaking community?
  2. Does the use of the Mindfulness exercises on the CD over a five week period reduce psychological distress?
  3. Is any reduction in psychological stress maintained over a 12 week period?

Project Design and Method
