Expression of interest for Gudaga Research Program Leader
We are looking for a Gudaga Research Program Leader at the Centre for Health Equity Training Research and Evaluation (CHETRE) based in Liverpool, NSW, part of the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, UNSW Australia. The Program Leader will join the Gudaga leadership team and
work with the Chief Investigators to implement, disseminate and further develop the Program.
Expression of interest for CEO/ Research leader
The Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity are looking for a new CEO/research leader at the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, UNSW Australia. This will become available in the first half of 2015, on the resignation of the current CEO, Associate Prof Gawaine Powell Davies.
New project—Effectiveness of an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Cultural Respect Program in general practice
Aboriginal people comprise 2.5% of Australia's population, with 60% urban dwellers with poor access to health care. Poor access to care is reflected through disparities in health status and health outcomes between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians. Despite various strategies to close this gap inequities still persist. The project aims at addressing this issue at general practice level.
Opening of Waranwarin Child and Family Centre and Close the Gap Day
On 20th March, members of the Gudaga Research Team attended the Tharawal celebrations for Closing the Gap Day. This year they were held at the Waranwarin Child and Family Centre and were combined with the official opening of the Waranwarin Centre. This day is an opportunity for the Aboriginal community to come together and celebrate their work towards building a strong, healthy Aboriginal community on Tharawal Lands.
Prof Iain Broom sharing weight management program
In February-March, The Centre for Obesity Management and Prevention Research Excellence in Primary Health Care (COMPaRE-PHC) hosted a visit from Professor Iain Broom, who is Director of the Centre for Obesity Research and Epidemiology (CORE) at Robert Gordon University. He is also Medical Director of LighterLife, holds a Professorial Research Fellowship at the Rowett Research Centre and is a founding European SCOPE Fellow. Professor Broom has been responsible, along with several UK colleagues, for the development of the Counterweight program of which he is Chairman.
Nurse Led Models of Primary Care Short Course
Nick Zwar from CPHCE and Elizabeth Halcomb from University of Wollongong contributed to a successful short course organised by the University of Melbourne and the Australian Medicare Local Alliance on “Nurse Led Models of Care: Development, Implementation and Evaluation”, held in Melbourne on 20th September.
Cancer Services win more funding for better communication
The GP Unit, Cancer Services, the Ingham Institute and the SW Sydney Medicare Local have won a second $50,000 grant from the Cancer Institute of NSW to improve integration.
Medicare Local-- how are they doing?
Are Medicare Locals achieving their strategic aims? Are they on track to become effective Primary Health Care Organisations? These are questions that the Centre is asking as part of the national evaluation of Medicare Locals which is being conducted with Ernst and Young and Monash University.
